THE PROBLEMS IN THE PROCESS OF TEACHINNG A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TO THE STUDENTS OF A NON-LINGUIST SPECIALITIES

Abstract

The importance of the issue selected for the research is related to the process of teaching English to the students of non-linguistic specialties. Nowadays it is very important for specialists in different spheres to know the English language for their work as in today's world English is the global international language. The aim of the investigation is the analysis of the factors on which depends the successful studying of the English language by the students for whom English is not their specialty. The paper describes the main factors which influence teaching English: motivation, ability to work independently, age and psychological characteristics of students, students' creative abilities, and effectiveness of teaching methods. There is a proposal how to increase the motivation of students in studying English; the paper analyses the effectiveness of students’ independent work. There are also given data of the process which show the change of mental functions that affect the process of learning, depending on the age of students. The paper gives a brief description of the experiment «Language training of students-bachelors on the level of professional communication» which is based on deep study of the English language by the students of non-linguistic specialties. There is given two year analysis of the experience with the revealed problems that faced teachers and students. According to the results of the research it was found that teaching a foreign language to students of non-linguistic specialties in higher school must be supplemented with teaching manuals containing specific tasks that contribute to successful language acquisition. The results of the analysis of the factors that influence learning a foreign language, the decision of appeared problems should become a promising direction for the further study of the raised issues and the successful realization of goals and objectives in teaching the English language to students of non-linguistic specialties.
